Spire Global Launches Web-Based App for Simplified Satellite Constellation Operations

Virginia-based space data and services firm, , unveiled its Constellation Management Platform at Space Tech Expo in Bremen on November 14. The web-based app is designed to simplify constellation operations for 's customers, providing a user-friendly interface for managing satellite operations.

The Constellation Management Platform is part of Spire's Space Services, offering end-to-end solutions to customers, allowing them to build, launch, and operate their satellite constellation for a flat monthly fee. This mission operation-as-a-service platform supports various use cases, including Earth observation, connectivity, radio frequency intelligence, and space domain awareness.

Frank Frulio, General Manager of Space Services at Spire, highlighted the importance of simplifying satellite operations, stating, “Satellites never sleep. You build and launch a satellite once, but then you have to operate it and communicate with it thousands of times over its lifetime.” The platform aims to make satellite management more accessible, reducing the need for a large team of experts.

The Constellation Management Platform is being developed with the support of a €1.5 million award from the (ESA) under its Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems (ARTES) Core Competitiveness Program. Additional support comes from the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA).

This web-based application will be available to Spire's Space Services customers, enabling them to simplify and optimize the operations of their satellite constellations. It will also be accessible to those seeking to streamline operations for an existing constellation.

Idris Habbassi, Head of Product and Strategy of Space Services at Spire, mentioned during a product launch event that the platform is currently undergoing testing by a customer. He added, “Between now and the end of December 2024, we will continue to develop this tool because we're right now in a contract with ESA for the development of this tool. We have many features that will be developed between now and December 2024.”

Spire, headquartered in Virginia with a presence in Scotland, operates manufacturing facilities in Glasgow that are constructing greenhouse gas monitoring satellites for GHGSat. Additionally, Spire manages a constellation of more than 100 LEMUR cubesats.
